 Ama K. Abebrese Ama K. Abebrese is a multi talented TV presenter, producer, and actor that many viewers of the UK based satellite TV channel OBE TV across the UK, Ireland, Europe and North Africa are familiar with. Her resident entertainment chat show ‘On the Sofa’ is extremely popular with viewers where she interviews international celebrities like Akon, Ziggy Marley, Hollywood actor Idris Elba and UK stars like rapper Sway, as well as African celebrities like Jim Iyke, Batman Samini and Becca to name a few. Since 2004, Ama K. as she popularly known has been a regular face on OBE TV, where she gained popularity amongst the channel’s audiences as Chris Attoh’s other half on the hugely successful ‘One Touch’ music request show. After Attoh’s departure to Ghana a year later she continued to front the show. Youtube viewers may have seen her hilarious interviews with stars of the Ghana BlackStars football players prior to their departure to their historic 2006 World Cup games. Her bubbly and infectious laugh is mesmerising, and her celebrity guests usually warm to her and usually appear at ease when she is interviewing them. A regular at Red Carpet Events, she is usually one of the fixtures at the ‘Screen Nation Film and Television Awards’, the UK version of the Black Oscars where she does her thing effortlessly talking to likes of British actors Thandie Newton of the movie ‘Crash’ and Colin Salmon, popular in the James Bond movies. Also she can usually be found on the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards glitzy carpet interviewing the likes of Rihanna, Neyo and Joe. The UK based presenter, when in Ghana is often a co-host on the hugely popular ‘Music Music’ programme with Stacey and Bola Ray, and is usually featured as a guest on the popular ‘Mentor’ talent show. In the UK she can usually be seen mcing shows like the ‘Ghana Music Awards UK’ and ‘Miss Ghana UK’. Ama K. is a prominent face of ‘Josh Hair and Beauty’ the South London based celebrity multi Awards Winning Salon and has been featured several times in ‘Black Beauty’ magazine for the establishment. As well as being featured in several magazines in the UK and Africa, she has graced the covers of ‘Sankofa’ magazine and the Nigerian magazine ‘Gbedu International’, more recently she was featured in the sleek high fashion lifestyle Ghanaian publication ‘Canoe’ magazine. Ama K. began her TV career at YCTV (Youth Culture Television) in West London, where the highlight of her time there was when she interviewed Hollywood legend ‘Harrison Ford’ and ‘Star Wars’ director ‘George Lucas’. She moved on to co-host the youth entertainment programme ‘Pass da Mic’, a show in collaboration with BBC2. She went on to co-present BBC2 ‘English File’, hosting a show about the interactive image filmed on location in California. Also a trained actor, Ama K. has performed as part of the Lyric Theatre summer company in the play ‘Chinese Whispers’ on the London stage. She also portrayed the lead female role in the short play ‘Three Nights’ at the Diroma Theatre in London. She played a cameo role in the 2006 Ghanaian film ‘London Get Problem’. Ama K. is an extremely busy woman with not only her career, but she is also involved in non profit organisations. She is one of the patrons of ‘Ghana Union Youth UK’ and is currently involved in a charity project dear to her heart, C.H.E.A.P (Children’s Higher Education Action Programme), a charity programme that she conceptualised and has established with fellow TV presenter and producer Dentaa Boateng of ‘The Dentaa Show’, to organise campaign drives and donations for children’s charities and hospitals in Ghana. Ama K. Abebrese is indeed a driven woman who unsurprisingly one of the people she holds in high esteem is Oprah Winfrey, and this lady certainly seems to be going the right way to following her footsteps.
